PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional football team in the NFL and they are assigned to the NFC (National Football Conference) Eastern Division.  They are based out of Philadelphia, PA and play their home games at Lincoln Financial Field.

This football team has been around since 1933 and was a replacement team for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets.  This replacement was led by Bert Bell who had secured the rights to a NFL franchise in Philadelphia. They joined the NFL as an expansion team along with the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

The Philadelphia Eagles played their first game on October 5, 1933, against the New York Giants. 

The Eagles first decade was extremely rough and they struggled to make a name in the National Football League.  In the late 1940's, the team was lead by Earle Neale who coached them to three successive NFL Champion Games.  The Eagles won two of these in 1948 and 1949.  The Eagles won their third NFL Championship game in 1960 when the team was led by Norm Van Brockin and Chuck Bednarik. 

The Philadelphia Eagles are regarded as one of the greatest teams in the NFL.  Since 1947, they have made the playoffs 23 times.  They have appeared in two Super Bowls which occurred in 1980 and 2004.  Unfortunately, the Eagles lost both of these Super Bowls. 

Andy Reid was hired as their coach in 1999 and they drafted Donovan McNabb to lead them at quarterback.  Within five years, they went to Super Bowl XXXIX in 2004.  They were defeated by the New England Patriots with a final score of 24-21.
