KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional football team located in Kansas City, Missouri.  They are in the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL).

The Chiefs were founded by Lamar Hunt in 1960 and were a charter member of the American Football League (AFL).  They were originally known as the Dallas Texans.  Three years later, they relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name of the Chiefs. 

The KC Chiefs joined the NFL in 1970 during the AFL-NFL merger.  As of 2011, the team was valued at just under $1 Billion by Forbes Magazine. 

During their first 10 years in the AFL, the Chiefs were a successful franchise winning three league championships  (1962, 1966, and 1969).  They also have the all-time AFL record of 92-50-5.  The Chiefs were the second AFL team (the first was the New York Jets) to defeat an NFL franchise in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV on January 11, 1970.  This is the Chiefs only championship game victory.
