The Alabama Crimson Tide football team represents the University of Alabama (also known as Alabama, UA, or simply Bama).
The Crimson Tide competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletics Assosication (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The Crimson Tide began playing in 1892 and is one of the most storied and decorated programs in NCAA history. From 1958 to 1982, the team was lead by Hall of Fame coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, who won six national championships. Even though the team won numerous national and conference championship games, they did not have a Heisman Trophy winner until running back Mark Ingram won it in 2009.
At the end of the 2011 season, the Crimson Tide has had 814 official victories in the NCAA Division I. They have won 26 conference championships and has made an NCAA-record 59 postseason bowl appearances. They have also had 31 10-win seasons and 33 bowl victories which are also NCAA records. Their latest BCS Championship victory game in 2012.
The Alabama Crimson Tide plays their football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium which is located on campus in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The stadium can hold 101,821 spectators and is considered the 7th largest non-racing stadium in the world. The stadium is the fifth largest in the United States.
